The power of the pack: branding for champions
Handball Club Lupii is a junior handball team in Cluj-Napoca, an organisation dedicated to developing young talent and promoting sports among children and teenagers. In a city with a strong sports infrastructure and tradition, simply being on the court is not enough to stand out. To attract new players, build a community of supporters (especially parents), and convince potential sponsors to back future champions, the club needed a professional and memorable image.
The agency’s mission was to create a visual identity from scratch that conveys the team’s spirit, energy, and cohesion. The main challenge was developing a modern, dynamic visual language that avoids outdated sports clichés. The brand had to be “cool” enough for the juniors to wear proudly on their match kits, yet mature and structured enough to convey professionalism and reliability to partners and sponsors.
We started with the symbolism of the “wolf”—an animal that represents intelligence, agility, courage, and, most importantly, pack strength. In handball, success relies on team coherence, not just individual flashes of brilliance. We aimed for the new identity to reflect exactly this philosophy: a united, fast team, ready to attack. The design concept focused on movement, dynamism, and a bold color palette, characteristic of top-tier sports teams.
We created an impactful visual identity centered around a geometric and aggressive—in a sporting sense—stylization of a wolf’s profile. The sharp lines suggest direction and speed, essential attributes in handball. The chosen shape makes the logo highly legible, whether it is embroidered on a game jersey, printed on a ball, or displayed on social media.
